PATRIOTIC BOARD’S GOODS STOLEN

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 9. Four months’ imprisonment was imposed by the Magistrate, Mr W. F. Stilwell, on Percy Davidson Black, aged 48, news agent, and Ernest George Smiley, aged 36, storeman, for stealing goods belonging to the National Patriotic Fund Board from the War Purposes Committee’s store. They were jointly charged with stealing tea, honey, sheeps’ tongues, cheese, coffee and milk. It was stated that Smiley was storeman of the store from which the parcels were dispatched to prisoners of war and that he arranged with Black, whom he met on E.P.S. activities, to steal the goods. Goods to the value of £3O/5/1 had not been recovered.
