Lieutenant-Colonel H. C. Mackenzie, officer commanding No. 12 military area, returned last evening from Queenstown, where he had been on official business.

Mr J. N. Armour, president of the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, was nominated by the council yesterday for election as a member of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. The annual meeting of the Associated Chambers will be held at Wanganui on November 11 and 12. Mr J. B. Pasco has been appointed a member of the council of the Southland Acclimatization Society in place of Mr T. W. Brandford, who has resigned.

Messrs James Begg and T. A. Duncan, , have been appointed producers’ repre- 1 sentatives on the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.—P.A. The Rev. D. C. Herron, of Knox Church (Dunedin) has been nominated by the Auckland Presbytery for the post of moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand for the year 1943-44.

Two Invercargill soldiers who have been invalided home after service in Suva returned yesterday by the 1.5 p.m. express. They were Private A. J. S. Wilson, of Leet street, and Private A. J. Lee, of William street. Mr J. Harry, who has been caretaker at the Civic Theatre and who recently resigned on accepting a position in Nelson, was bidden farewell by members of the Town Hall staff on Wednesday afternoon. On their behalf the town clerk, Mr W. F. Sturman, presented Mr Hairy with a suitcase and wished him success in his new position. The appointment of the following members of the Town Planning Board was announced in last night’s Gazette: Messrs A. J. Baker, F. E. Greenish, C. K. Grierson, T. Jordan, E. H. Andrews, S. Blackley and J. W. A. Heenan. In addition the Minister of Internal Affairs (chairman), the Director of Town Planning, the Surveyor-General, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department and the Government architect are also members of the board.— P.A.
