POPULAR SECRETARY
Cricket Association Tributes to the work of Mr A. J. Hamilton as secretary of the Southland Cricket Association were paid at a meeting of the management committee of the association last might. Mr Hamilton recently tendered his resignation from the position of secretary and the meeting was his last in that capacity, though all the members of the committee expressed the hope that he would be able to resume his connection with the association at some future date. The president of the association, Mr G. Agnew, said that Mr Hamilton had done excellent work as secretary. His organization had been a model for any secretary. Mr Hamilton represented Southland at cricket and he had also done outstanding work as secretary of the Southland Rugby Union, in which capacity he was probably better known to the general public. He hoped that it might be possible for Mr Hamilton to resume his connection with the association at an early date. The vice-president, Mr W. T. Baker, said he could hardly imagine cricket being carried on in Invercargill without the assistance of Mr Hamilton. He had always been courteous and helpful and nothing had been too much trouble for him. The other members of the committee added their tributes. In his reply Mr Hamilton said he had enjoyed his work as secretary of the association during the past 10 years. He intended to go for a short holiday and he hoped that when he returned he would be able to resume his association with the game. On behalf of the sub-committee appointed to select a successor to Mr Hamilton, Mr T. H. McKenzie said that the committee had a man in view and it was hoped to have a definite answer from him in the course of the next few days.
