Great Fires Started (Rec. 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 3. A strong force of British bombers last night raided the Upper Rhineland, making Karlsruhe their target Very large fires broke out in the city and smoke ascended to a height of 8000 feet Eight bombers are missing. During June and July the Royal Air Force dropped 13,000 tons of bombs on Germany. This has been revealed by the Air Ministry in a review of the third and greatest year of the bombing offensive against Germany. The review stated that the Royal Air Force was active throughout the world and the raids on Germany were undertaken by only 3 per cent, of its strength.
