BROWNS BRANCH OF FARMERS’ UNION
At a meeting of the Browns branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union a local Primary Production Committee was formed. The following were elected: Messrs W. Sims (chairman), H. Anderson. D. Irwin, S. McCallum and L. Stevens (secretary). After a discussion on the Dairy Farmers’ Union it was decided unanimously that the time was not opportune to form such a group, as this action could only" cause a spilt among the farming community. It was decided to forward the following resolution to the Dairy Committee of the Southland Provincial Executive. "This branch of the Farmers’ Union wishes to place on record its strongest disapproval of the high-handed action taken by the Dairy Committee of the Southland Executive in shelving a petition circulated and signed by hundreds of Southland dairymen during the early part of last season asking the Minister of Marketing that the extra 5/9 per cwt on cheese paid by the British Government be paid out direct to the dairymen. Such actions can only tend to cause dissatisfaction among dairymen by reducing such petitions to a state of waste paper,”
