ARMED FORCES APPEAL BOARD
Eighty-four cases were dealt with by the Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board at a sitting in Invercargill yesterday. The board had sessions in the morning, afternoon and evening and it was 10 p.m. before It finished its work for the day. A considerable number of the appeals were on behalf of the employees of Government departments, including the State Fire Office, the State Forestry Service, the Land and Survey Department, the Post and Telegraph Department and the Southland Electric Power Supply. There were also appeals on behalf of men engaged in engineering works and on behalf of farm workers. In the majority of cases sine die adjournments were granted usually with the proviso that the reservist should serve in the Home Guard or the Emergency Precautions Service. Mr E. H. Mumey presided at the sitting and with him were Messrs D. W. Stalker and D. H. Cockburn. Mr J. W. Hlnchey. secretary of the board, conducted the cases for the Crown. The board will sit again today.
