CUSTOMS REVENUE IN AUGUST
Revenue secured by the Customs Department in Invercargill during August showed an increase compared with the same month of the previous year, but the rise was entirely in special taxes for war purposes. Customs duties actually fell sharply. Details of the revenue under the various headings for last month and August of last
year are as follows:— 1942 £ 1941 £ Customs duty 8,964 11,700 Beer duty 348 235 Sales tax 3,606 4,183 War Expenses sales tax 7,491 4,183 War Expenses other 1,232 250 TOTALS 21,641 20,557
