SCOUTMASTERS CONFER
Officers of the Boy Scout movement representing every province in the South Island, assembled in Christchurch over the week-end for the South Island Scoutmasters’ conference. Sir Joseph Ward, County Commissioner for Canterbury, presided, and associated with him were Sir James Grose, chairman of the Dominion executive, Mr Hector Christie, Chief Commissioner for New Zealand, Miss Nancy Wilson, club leader, and .Mr Alex. Black, Dominion Sea Scout Commissioner. Matters affecting Scouting, particularly the war-time aspect, were discussed and several recommendations were passed on to the annual meeting of the movement for consideration. On Saturday evening the Mayor of Christchurch, with whom were associated Archbishop West-Watson and, representa-
tlve citizens, tendered a civic reception to the delegates, and on Sunday afternoon Sir Joseph Ward entertained them at his home. Twelve delegates from Southland, under the leadership of Mr G. E. T. Dorman, attended.
