The Boy Scouts’ Association has conferred one of its highest honours, the Medal of Merit, on Mr G. E. T. Dorman, senior commissioner of the movement in Southland. The award recognizes nearly 30 years of meritorious service to Scouting, 20 of which have been served in Southland and Otago. The medal was presented at a conference of South Island officers in Christchurch on Saturday by the Dominion Chief Commissioner, Mr Hector Christie. Mr W. E. Race, of the Invercargill railway staff, has been transferred to Greymouth. Mr J. A. Smith, postmaster at Thombury, resumed duty yesterday after sick leave. Advice has been received by his mother that Warrant Officer E. W. Hobbs, D.C.M., who was recently reported wounded and dangerously ill, is now reported to be making slight but definite progress.
