GIFTS TO SOUTHLAND MUSEUM
Another lot of gifts has been handed over to the Southland Museum. The latest pieces include some fine geological specimens found in Southland and Otago and Maori adzes. Mr W. Wilson, of Browns, handed in a collection of stone and fossils. In the collection are some good specimens of petrifaction from Curio Bay. There is also a species of stone from Central Otago showing the highly polished effect of glacial action, and a whale’s tooth (petrified) found at Waipapa Point. Mrs Curson, who handed in the wonderful collection of keys made and collected by her father, has now given a very old Chinese compass, the peculiarity of which is that it points to the south. . Mr George Griffiths, jun., handed m a good specimen of auriferous quartz found at Alexandra.
