BLUFF NEWS
RATES COLLECTION.— An appreciable increase in the current year’s rates collection is shown in figures supplied by the town clerk of Bluff, Mr H. A. Ferguson. Of a total levy of £5775 the sum of £2966 was collected by the last discount day, equal to 51.4 per cent. The amount collected In the corresponding period in the previous year was £2311 of a total levy of £5406, equal to 42.8 per cent. From borough records available this year’s appears to be the highest collection yet made to the discount day. RAILWAY OFFICERS. —A combined meeting of the Southland branch of the New Zealand Railways Officers’ Institute, held in the form of a social function, took place on Saturday night. Mr J. Curran presided. The guest of the evening was the New Zealand president of the institute, Mr M. J. Forde. An interesting account of the subjects dealt with at the recent conference held in Wellington was given by the delegates.
