SOUTH INVERCARGILL BOROUGH AFFAIRS

A letter from the Southland Hospital Board received at the meeting of the South Invercargill Borough Council last night stated that the hospital levy for the financial year 1942-43 for the South Invercargill Borough was £238/16/2. This, it was reported, was about £2O more than the levy for the previous year, but the council had a surplus in hand to meet this increase. Writing in reply to a complaint about the blocking of the drain at the foot of Armagh street, the Railways Department stated that it was not responsible for clearing the open drain between Armagh street and the culvert under the railway line. It was decided to bring the matter to the notice of the Main Highways Board. It was decided to call tenders for the work of gravelling and reforming the footpath on the north side of Kew road from Elies road to the hospital. There were present at the meeting the Mayor (Mr Owen Smith) and Crs O. H. Paton, T, W. Richards and E. A. Hughes. '
