LITTLE SOUTHLANDERS’ CHRONICLE

My dear Cousins, The members of the Thistle Clan have asked me to thank all those who helped to make their sale a success. The sale, for patriotic funds, was held in the Ranui Kindergarten, Nelson street, last Saturday, and including a competition, £B/1/2 was raised. Well done, Thistle Clan. Three new Little Southlanders forgot to send the dates of their birthdays when they enrolled. They are Fay Laing, Una Wilson and Barbara Ford. When these cousins send their birthdays enrolment cards will be posted to them. Patriotic knitting has been received from Pearl Powell and Kathleen Hughes. The new story competition this week is something special, and book prizes are being given by our kind friend who recently gave the prizes for the bird competition. Your loving

My brother and sister and myself caught the bus on Wednesday. As 1 it was raining we did not expect anyone to ’ meet us, but my cousin came running through the gate with a coat flung over her head. The driver passed her our luggage and we paid our fare and stepped out into ' the rain. We walked up to the house and met ' auntie. Then we had our tea and auntie showed us our bedrooms. Next day we awoke very early and looked anxiously out of the window. It was a lovely spring morning. The birds were singing their morning song and the golden sun was shining on the old farm house making it look very homely. We stayed at the farm for two happy weeks and then we caught the bus one morning and journeyed home. —Prize of 1/- to Cousin Barbara Ford (10), 21 Albany street, Gore.
