£700 FROM STREET DAY

A cheque for £7OO, a progress payment from the Invercargill Traders’ Patriotic Assistance Committee, has been received by Mr W. F. Sturman, honorary treasurer of the Southland Patriotic Council, for the Sick and Wounded Fund. The money was raised on the occasion of the street day held by the committee in the city on August 7. A covering letter with the cheque stated that the committee had aimed at £lOOO, and it was thought that this amount would have been reached had the weather been favourable. The committee intended to put on a gala day for the Patriotic Fund in November. 1
