RACE SUICIDE IN NEW ZEALAND

“Many Causes For Shame” New Zealand was committing race suicide in three ways, declared the Very Rev. Dean G. C. Cruickshank, of Dunedin, in an address in Invercargill last night in supporting the campaign for Christian Order. There were many causes for shame in this country, he added. The people should be utterly ashamed of the open sale of contraceptives, he said. The country was losing far more lives that were not born than were lost in the war. The practice of abortion in New Zealand would astonish doctors and policemen and others who thought they were “in the know.” The divorce laws were such that it would soon be necessary to keep some sort of municipal pedigree books to make sure people did not fall into the abyss of inter-marrying among persons with common ancestors, leading to the production of children suffering from lunacy. The Dominion was committing intellectual suicide by forbidding the teaching of Christianity in the schools. One of the objects of the campaign for Christian .Order should be that the word “secular” should be erased from the Education Act. That should be impressed on local members of Parliament by all congregations. The third form of race suicide was economic disputes. Squabbles were going on constantly between capital and labour. The farmer was the backbone of the country and he was both capital and labour. So was everyone else. At the back of the disputes was the old sin of greed. New Zealand had bred the laziest men in the world, and it was necessary to bring them back to the principles of justice, truth and a fair reward for labour.
