Barclay confirming the appointment < Miss Jean Jamieson as superintendent < the Nursing Division of the St. John Ambu lance Brigade caused by Mrs G. M. Chap man's promotion as lady officer in charg of cadets. During Miss Jamieson’s absenc overseas, Miss I. King, Lindisfarne road, i to be acting superintendent from Septem ber 1. After five years c sole teacher at Mimihau, Miss Loudon hr accepted a position on the staff of the Bel fast School, Christchurch. Mr E. Humphrie: chairman of the school committee, presente Miss Loudon with a well-filled purse an Mrs Loudon with a,fruit dish. On behalf c the scholars Gordon Frame asked Mis Loudon to accept a fire screen and Maste Crosbie presented Mrs Loudon with a sweet dish. NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN At yesterday’s meeting of the Invercar gill branch of the National Council o Women the new president, Mrs J. Nico (Bluff, representing the Federation o: Women’s Institutes) was in the chair. I. proposal that the Invercargill branch g< into recess for the duration of the war oi for one year was lost, and it was decider to continue monthly meetings. There will however, be no meeting in September a: the president will then be attending thr meeting of the Dominion executive ir Wellington. Mesdames D. A. Dunn (Victoria Home Committee) and W. D. Riddle (Registered Nurses' Association) were elected vice-presidents.
