CHINESE SUCCESS
Capture Of Linchwan CHUNGKING, Aug* 24. It is officially announced that the Chinese have captured Linchwan, the second most important Japanese base in Central Kiangsi. The military spokesman said that Japanese forces had been driven from 11 important towns during last week, retreating to Manchukuo like hungry dogs, fatigued, starved, sick and so short of munitions that they could not fight even a rearguard action. Guerrilla activities had deprived the Japanese of food. Munition supplies had played an important part in the enemy’s collapse, while the American bombing of Japanese targets had boosted the Chinese morale. The Central News reports that the Chinese have recaptured Changshan, 25 miles north-west of Chuhsien. The Chinese are converging on Chuhsien from the east and north-east.
