LABOUR PROBLEMS IN LIME WORKS

Meeting At Timaru Representatives of Southland lime companies travelled north yesterday to attend a meeting of South Island representatives at Timaru last 1 night convened by the Director-General of Agriculture (Mr A. H. Cockayne). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss labour problems in lime works and the possibility of preparing a scheme to ensure that all farmers received a fair and reasonable, supply of lime. The meeting was in private, Press representatives not being admitted. The Southland representatives were Messrs J. Murray Wilson (Browns Lime Company), M. J. Royds (Fernhill Lime Company) and J. Doherty (Doherty’s Lime Company). Mr A. L. Adamson, secretary of the Southland Primary Production Council, also attended the meeting.
