Mrs F. H. Wilkinson, Dunedin, i$ spending a holiday at Wendonside. Miss M. Lousley, Don street, leaves today to spend a holiday at Quenstown. Miss Jean Macalister, Dalrymple street, leaves today on a holiday visit to Dunedin. Mrs T. L. Macdonald, Mataura, is visiting her sister, Mrs A. S. Moody, Queenstown. Miss Kathleen Buchan, Dunedin, is visiting Mrs M. V. Blaikie, Kelvin street. Miss Patricia Gatehouse, Don street, has returned from a short visit to Dunedin. Mrs G. M. Baker, “Carlowrie,” Otatara, is the guest of Mrs A. H. Elies,\ Winton. Mrs T. A. Quirk, Wellesley 'Avenue, is visiting her father, Mr J. R. Bartholomew, St. Clair, Dunedin. Mrs A. T. Anderson, Dunedin, is the guest of her mother, Mrs D. Grindlay, Morton street. Mr and Mrs Niel Macdonald, Collingwood street, have returned from a visit to their daughter, Mrs A. C. Millar, Blenheim. Dr J. C. Hazeldine, Hamilton, and Miss Nora Robinson, Masterton, are the .guests of Mr and Mrs P. C. Hazledine, Wilton street. Members of the Southland Women s Club are notified that Miss Buchanan will be the speaker at the social afternoon on Friday, August 28, at 2.45 p.m. Bowls of spring blossom decorated the Southland Women’s Club rooms last night for the entertainment given by the Music Circle. The following programme was presented: Pianoforte solo, “Knightsbridge Marches,” Mrs A. F. Manning; songs, “Don t Hurry,” and “I Hear a Thrush at Eve,” Miss J. Lee; songs, Mrs C. Meiklejohn; pianoforte solos, Liszt’s Rhapsody Number 4 and Russian Melody, Mrs T. Mathews; elocutionary items, “A Cooking Lecture,” and “A Cosy Afternoon With Betty,” Miss N. Pritchard; song, “Open Thy Blue Eyes,” Mrs E. K. Mills; items by the glee party. The members were welcomed by the president of the circle, Mrs E. K. Mills. The popularity of Mr and Mrs W. Brash and family in the Knapdale district was shown by the big number of people who attended the farewell social in their honour in the Knapdale Hall and by the number of presentations made during the evening. Mr Brash, who has received notice of his transfer to the Eiffelton School, Canterbury, has been head teacher of the Knapdale School for a number of years. Mr A. E. Whiteley, chairman, referred to the good work done by Mr Brash, both in the interests of the school and many dismet organizations with which he was connected. He also referred to Mrs Brash’s work in patriotic activities. Mr Whiteley presented Mr Brash with an envelope of notes on behalf of the residents of the district. Several other presentations were made to Mr and Mrs Brash and family. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Olga Isobel, second daughter of Mr and Mrs W. F. Duthie, Ferndale, to Private Alexander Colin ’Stewart, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. S. Reid, Edendale.
