DAIRY FACTORY MEETINGS

BRYDONE.— A bonus of £3456/7/7 was distributed at the annual meeting of the Brydone Dairy Factory Company Ltd., bringing the total pay-out for the season to l/6.6157d per lb butterfat. It was reported that the output for the season had been 376 tons of cheese compared with 303 tons in the previous year when the factory was open only for a portion of the season. The retiring directors, Messrs T. Mawdsley and T. V. McDonald, were re-elected. The Dairy Farmers’ Union was discussed, but no action was taken.

At a meeting of directors Mr R. Bagrie was elected chairman and a vote of appreciation was passed to Mr A. J. Townley, who had been chairman for 19 years. OTARA. — Mr C. Casey presided at the annual meeting of shareholders of the Otara Co-operative Dairy Factory Company Ltd. on Saturday. He stated that at the time the balance-sheet was drawn up 1/4 had been paid for first grade milk. A further Id per lb butterfat had since been paid and another Id was being paid at the meeting, bringing the payment for first grade up to 1/6 per lb butterfat. In making this payment the estimated surplus in the bal-ance-sheet had been exceeded by .05d. This was done in anticipation of receiving a bonus of cream to cover that amount. The slightly lower price per lb butterfat this year had been due to increased costs, more particultarly in materials. The intake of milk had been well maintained, the last season having been the best for a number of years. The distribution being made at the meeting absorbed the sum of over £BOO. The total payments throughout the season had amounted to approximately £14,350. The retiring directors, Messrs James Blair, William Blair and G. S. Thwaites were reelected and Mr H. Gamble was elected to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr C. Casey. The Dairy Farmers’ Union was discussed and it was decided to leave individual suppliers to decide whether they would become members or not. Votes of thanks were passed to the manager (Mr F. A. Hughes), the secretary (Mr W. Carswell) and the factory staff, and the secretary’s staff. The appointment of a new chairman was held over until the next meeting because two directors were absent on military service.
