THE WEATHER
(Special) WELLINGTON, August 21. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland, issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Fresh to strong north-westerly to westerly winds reaching gale force in some exposed positions. The weather cloudy to overcast with a period, of general rain followed by some improvement east of” the ranges; temperatures moderate to mild.
The weather in Invercargill yesterday was mild and overcast until the evening, when heavy rain fell, accompanied by a strong north-westerly wind. At 1 o'clock this morning the weather was mild and overcast with a light northwesterly wind. The barometer reading was 29.44 in (falling).
