DAIRY FACTORY MEETINGS
MENZIES FERRY— Mr A. M. Weir presided over a fair attendance of shareholders of the Menzies Ferry Dairy Factory Company Ltd. He reported that the output for the season had been 405 tons of cheese compared with 484 tons last year. The drop was accounted for by the fact that in the previous season the company handled a portion of the supply of the Seaward Downs factory. The company had paid out 1/4.4891 per lb butterfat during the season. A distribution of £2634/2/8 ’at the meeting represented 1.8427 d per lb butterfat, bringing the total to l/6.3318d. The retiring directors, Messrs D. Caldwell and J. Winter, were re-elected and Mr A. M. Weir was re-elected chairman. A circular letter from Mr A. C. Park, organizing secretary of the Dairy Farmers’ Union, was read and discussion was invited, but no action was taken.
HEDGEHOPE— The annual meeting of the Hedgehope Dairy Factory Company Ltd. was well attended by shareholders. Mr A. McKay was chairman. He reported that already 1/4 per lb butterfat had been paid for first grade milk and a further 1.65 d might be paid. Actually the sum of 1.5 d per lb butterfat was being paid at the meeting, leaving a balance in the appropriation account of ,15d, to which had to be added any bonus received from whey cream. The Intake of milk had been well maintained, the past season having been the best for a number of years. The distribution being made absorbed £707. When the full distribution had been completed a total of over £8350 would have been paid to suppliers for the past season’s production. One of the retiring directors, Mr W. Dukes, declined re-election, but Messrs A. McKay and A. D. Highsted offered their services again and Messrs N. A. Stafford, R. Ker, A. Skinner and J. Graham were nominated. Messrs McKay, Stafford and Ker were elected. The Dairy Farmers’ Union was discussed and the question was left to individual suppliers to decide for themselves whether they became members. Mr John Graham moved the following motion which was carried unanimously: “That this meeting of shareholders declares its loyalty to King and Empire and will do everything In its power to support the war effort and the boys who have gone to fight by producing to the best of our ability.’’ DRUMMOND. The annual report of the Drummond Dairy Factory Company Ltd. states that with the change back from cheese to butter it was probable that there would be a substantial shrinkage in the output for the incoming season. There was a surplus on the year’s working of £1387 12/6 and it was proposed to make the final bonus payable at the annual meeting. The retiring directors were Messrs T. Johnstone and S. Stuart.
