RELEASE OF MEN FOR FARM WORK
Many Applications In
Southland
During the past few weeks the Southland Armed Forces Appeal Board has been busy dealing with applications from farmers for the release of men from camp to help with seasonal work on the farms. Applications are still coming to hand in considerable numbers. In many cases men have been granted two months’ leave from camp with the right of review at the end of that period. The board has been so busy meeting the demand for seasonal farm labour that there has been some delay in dealing with appeals from or on behalf of men drawn in the last ballot. However, arrangements have now been made for the board to hold sittings at Invercargill on September 1,2, 3 and 4. Sittings at other centres in the province will be held later in the month, but no definite dates for these have yet been fixed. Appeals of men in the sixteenth ballot are among the cases to be dealt with at these sittings, and as there are more than 800 of these appeals the board has a busy time ahead.
