PUKERAU RABBIT BOARD
Sir,—ln your issue of August 15 appears a report of a meeting held in Gore by a number of farmers who were dissatisfied with the Pukerau Rabbit Board. It was claimed at the meeting by members' of the board that the board was properly constituted. That may, or may not, be correct, but it seems that a large number of farmers have no confidence in the board, and because of the shortage of labour and the necessity of concentrating on winning the war, think that the rabbit problem should be pushed into the background till after victory is won. Mr S. Graham told the meeting that he had been misinformed by those canvassing his district for signatures in favour of forming a board, but that was denied by Mr S. Edwards, who was one of the canvassers. However Mr Edwards said that he had told Mr Graham that the rate would be 4d an acre. Mr Edwards had no authority to tell Mr Graham what the rate would be, as the board which fixes the rate was not then elected. OLD SOLDIER.
