CALF COLLECTIONS IN SOUTHLAND
The collection of bobby calves in Southland will begin on September 1. Because of shortages of petrol and tyres collecting lorries will be unable to operate on side roads and definite routes have been arranged for the carriers. It will be necessary, therefore, for farmers living on side roads to take their calves to the nearest main road served by a collecting lorry, and special efforts will be necessary to avoid confusion if more than one farmer's calves are placed in one pen. The Calf Committee of the South Island Dairy Association has arranged to make an advance payment of 7/6 a head for all accepted calves. This sum is similar to the advance payment last year.
