GOLF.—A Stableford match played by members of the Gore Golf Club at the week-end resulted in a win for R. E. Sutherland, who returned a card of 23-11-34. The next best cards were: A. Hain, 15-18-33; L. G. Thomson, 26-6-32; D. S. McLeod. 19-12-31. Members of the Gore Ladles’ Golf Club played an L.G.U. match in conjunction with the second qualifying round of the championship. The match was won by Mrs G. Mitchell with a card of 113-34-79, Mrs J. P. Bishop being runner-up. The following members qualified for the B grade championship: Miss D. Perry, Mrs A. Watson, Mrs A. D. Reid, Mrs G. Mitchell, Miss I. Rhodes, Mrs J. A. Ross, Mrs A. Hain and Mrs J. P. Bishop. ROTARY CLUB— A tribute to the soldiers who are fighting this war was paid by Lieutenant-Colonel E. J. Anderson, of Dunedin, during an address at the meeting of the Gore Rotary Club yesterday. Lieuten-ant-Colonel Anderson, who saw service in the Great War and overseas earlier in this war and Is now in charge of a military camp, spoke of the place of youth in the present-day world and of its opportunities for service. He was accorded a hearty vote thanks for his address. SCHOOL HOCKEY— Two teams from Columba Girls' College, Dunedin, visited Gore yesterday and' played hockey matches against teams from the Gore High School. Both matches were won by the Gore teams after some interesting play. The senior match was won by a margin of two goals to nil and the junior match by six goals to nil.
