PRODUCTION IN FRANCE FOR GERMANS
LONDON, August 16.
Pierre Laval, Vichy Prime Minister, having expressed himself in favour of the full collaboration of France and Germany, the Nazis are insisting that he shall carry this out in the industrial sphere. The production of explosives is to be developed in Unoccupied France. It is to be carried out entirely from French resources and assistance has been refused. Vichy may keep a limited proportion for its own needs after all Germany’s demands have been met. The Germans state that the necessary industrial alcohol must be produced in France, even if this means the complete suppression of the wine industry. The Germans have refused a Vichy request to protect factories against aircraft attacks.
