MENINGITIS CASES

INCREASE IN WELLINGTON (P.A.) . WELLINGTON, August 17. Cerebro-spinal meningitis, of which there have been always a few isolated cases" for many months, has shown a definite increase in the last few weeks, according to a statement today by the medical officer of health at Wellington, Dr Hubert Smith. He emphasized, however, that there was no need for the public to become unduly alarmed. The increase was more or less general throughout the Dominion, but in the last week Wellington seemed to have had rather more cases than other centres. It had not been possible to trace the spread of contacts. A certain number of persons all the time were carrying germs in their throats, and it was desirable to keep children away from crowded places.
