BRAVERY OF RAILWAY MAN
y Sapper A. W. Bennett, one of the four members of a New Zealand.railway operating company in the Middle East who were commended for bravery in coping with a fire in tank wagons after bombing by the enemy last February, spent several years in Southland before enlisting for service with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force early in the war. He was employed in the locomotive branch of the New Zealand Railways and was transferred to Clinton from the West Coast, where he joined the service. He was employed in driving trains to and from Invercargill. His wife was Miss Jessie Turner, daughter of Mr and Mrs M. Turner, of Herbert street, Invercargill. Mrs Bennett is living in Christchurch and is engaged in war work.
