CLERGY RESIST QUISLING

(Rec. 7 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, August 15. The Norwegian clergy’s defiance has forced Quisling’s Church Department to mark time. The Department announces that it does not propose to enthrone more bishops. This follows the clergy’s reaction when two of Quisling’s Bishops were replaced and dethroned by anti-Quislings. The department also announces that the police were instructed to confiscate rolies from dismissed clergymen but adds that the police were told not to arrest clergy offering resistance. The Stockholm correspondent of The Times says the Church Department’s attitude is inspired by the hope that negotiations with the recalcitrant clergy will become possible at a favourable moment.
