CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED
POLICE SEARCHING FOR MOTORIST Douglas Tomlins, aged 14, who lives with his mother at 211 Tweed street, was seriously injured when _ knocked down by a motor-car last night. He was admitted to the Southland hospital with both arms and both legs fractured. The accident occurred at 6.45 p.m. near the intersection of Tweed and Nelson streets. The police are endeavouring to trace the motorist. . Tomlins, who was accompanied by his brother Leslie, was cycling east along Tweed street and the motor-car was travelling in the opposite direction. The car, it is stated, swerved to avoid two girls on bicycles and collided with Tomlins. It is also stated that the car began to slow down after the collision and then went on with gathering speed. From pieces of glass picked up at the scene of the accident the police are satisfied that the headlights of the car were smashed by the impact.
