Mr H. C. R. Blackwood, formerly chief clerk of the Christchurch branch of the State Fire Insurance Office, arrived in Invercargill last night to take up his new duties as manager of the Invercargill branch. Mr M. Henderson, representative of the Southland Hardware Association on the Invercargill Chamber of Commerce, has been appointed to represent the chamber on the Southland branch of Consolidated Importers (N.Z.) Limited.

Mr J. C. Lindsay, who was one of the original directors of the Otahuti Dairy Factory Company and who served continually on the directorate during the last 20 years, including a period as chairman, retired from the directorate at the annual meeting on Wednesday night. Tributes were paid to his long service with the company. Messrs W. H. Campbell (Winton), E. R. Blake (Riverton) and H. Hammond (Limehills) have been appointed honorary rangers for the Southland Acclimatization Society’s district.

Mr C. Clay, who has been a director of the Mokotua Dairy Factory Company since it was established 27 years ago, including a period as chairman, did not seek re-election at the annual meeting this week. Complimentary reference was made to his long service for the company.

Mr Selwyn L. Niederer, B.V.Sc., who has recently completed his studies at the Sydney University Veterinary College, received his degree on June 13 and subsequently joined the Royal Australian Air Force. Mr Niederer, who is a son of Mr and Mrs Louis Niederer, of Gorge Road, left New Zealand in February 1939, after studying veterinary surgery at Otago University. He is 22 years of age and was well known in Rugby and cricket circles at the University and also at the Timaru Boys’ High School, where he matriculated. On the completion of his studies in Sydney he was married to Miss Helen Rocklyeft, only daughter of Chaplain Captain Rocklyeft of the Australian Armoured Division and Mrs Rocklyeft, of the Manse, Glebe (N.S.W.). Mr Niederer is to sit the final examination in veterinary science at the end of this year.
