DRIVE FOR PATRIOTIC FUNDS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 11. The second phase of the national drive to raise the second £500,000 of the £1,000.000 required for patriotic purposes during the current year began today. The amounts collected by the 11 provincial patriotic councils this year up to 7 o’clock last night' are as follows with the percentage of the quota the amount represents in each instance: —Hawke’s Bay, £52,000, 77.5; Otago, £106,000, 70.6; West Coast, £9300, 66.4; Nelson, £22,454, 62.4; Southland, £38,000, 62.2; Marlborough, £BOOO, 53.3; Wellington, £97,277, 45.2; East Coast, £11,480, 43.9; Taranaki, £33.700. 33.7; Canterbury, £70,235, 28.2; Auckland, £136,000, 27.2 The main feature of the campaign is the sale of comforts coupons, purchasers of which may subscribe any amount they wish for general purposes or specific sums ranging from 2/6 for 50 cigarettes to £5OO for a recreation hut.
