WEEK-END MATCHES

Following are the best cards returned in a four-ball bogey match played on the Queen’s Park Golf Club’s links on Saturday: W. Millar and J. Armstrong, 6 up; B. J. Smith and L. E. Raines, 4 up. The weather was fine but the course was heavy. An open day was held at Queen’s Park during the week-end. Results:—

Henderson In the final. - CANADIAN OPEN TITLE (Rec. 10.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 9. Craig Wood, the American golf champion, won the Canadian open championship with a score of 275. INVERCARGILL ARCHERY CLUB The following were the highest scores in the Invercargill Archery Club's shoot on Saturday afternoon:—Wilkie 186, C. Peddle 155, Myer 143, T. Mclntosh 129, A. Tlnnock 129, Mrs Peddie 96, Miss V. Allot 76. Mclntosh gained the highest score in the Golden Arrow competition. HOCKEY POSTPONED Hockey matches on Saturday were postponed because the grounds were in bad order. EASTERN SOUTHLAND BASKETBALL

The Ex-High I team won the Eastern Southland basketball competition for the 1942 season when it defeated High School I on Saturday. Both teams had gone through the competition without defeat and the game was followed with keen interest. The match was evenly contested and Ex-High won by a margin of only three goals. Following are Saturday’s results:—ExHigh I beat High School I, 19-16; St. Patrick’s I beat St. Patrick’s 11. 21-4; Mataura beat Ex-High 11. 12-9.
