MAN-POWER FOR FARMS
ASSURANCE GIVEN BY MINISTER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 8. The Minister of National Service, the Hon. W. J. Broadfoot, today referred to a recent statement by Mr W. W, Mulholland, president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, suggesting that numbers of men released from camp to resume farm work had not done so. Lest there should be any misunderstanding on the matter, giving rise to concern and uneasiness, Mr Broadfoot again reviewed the procedure which had been adopted to provide adequate man power for primary production. Appeal boards were at present reviewing all cases of those who obtained temporary leave from commanding officers, and primary production councils were co-operating with appeal boards, he said. While there were a few cases of men obtaining temporary release without justification, the public could rest assured that these men would be required to return to their units, as no recommendation from appeal boards would be forthcoming.
