PROVISION OF HOMES FOR SOLDIERS
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 8. In order to meet the demands of returned servicemen for homes or farms as more and more return to New Zealand, the Government is prepared to purchase both to supplement the State homes and areas of newly-developed land available, according to a statement made by the Hon. R. Seifiple. While the Government would build homes for returned men or lend them money to build for themselves, he said, some would probably want to go into existing homes and property owners who had houses for sale could help by selling to the Government or to exservicemen who would be financed by the State. Only a certain amount of land was available under the land development schemes, and consequently some of the men would require to purchase existing farms and stock. The State Advances Corporation had opened a property register on which farms and homes offered for returned men would be recorded.
