NIGHTBEAM WINS ROWLEY MILE

ROSEHILL RACES ON SATURDAY CLARENDON STAKES TO HIGH CASTE (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright) (Received September 30, 7.25 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 29. The racing at Rosehill on Saturday revealed another Derby possibility in the Marconigram colt, Scientist, who won the Hawkesbury Grand Handicap in a courageous finish with Binnia Hero and Maligigi in which less than half a length separated the trio. Nightbeam caused a surprise by winning the Rowley Mile narrowly from Clouston and Bourbon, That consistent colt Ensign set cracking pace in the Quality Handicap, spreadeagling a good field to win by two lengths from Katanga and Delmestor. Showing that he improves with racing, High Caste won the Clarendon Stakes comfortably from Buzalong and St. Constant. The chief results were:— CLARENDON STAKES, £4OO, Nine furlongs. HIGH CASTE, 9.0 (E. Bartie) 1 BUZALONG, 9.1 (F. Shean) 2 ST. CONSTANT, 9.4 (H. McMenamin) 3 Six started. Won by half a length, third one length and a-half away. Time, 1.52}. QUALITY HANDICAP, £4OO. Seven furlongs. ENSIGN, 7.7 (Thompson) 1 KATANGA, 8.3 (Bartie) 2 DELMESTOR, 8.11 (McMenamin) 3 Twelve started, including Gladynev. Won by two lengths, third one length and a-quarter away. Time, 1.24}, which equals the course record. HAWKESBURY GRAND HANDICAP, £350. One mile and a-quarter. SCIENTIST, 7.2 (Thompson) 1 BINNIA HERO, 8,0 (Cook) 2 MALAGIGI, 8.6 (Bartie) 3 Thirteen started.
