TISBURY CLUB ELECTS OFFICERS FREE MEMBERSHIP FOR PLAYERS IN FORCES

There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Tisbury Tennis Club. The following office-bearers were elected: Patron, Mr W. M. C. Denham M.P.; president, Mr T. Mclntosh; vicepresidents, Messrs A. Wachner, C. Purdue, W. O’Neill; secretary, Mr J. Dale; committee, Messrs R. Ferguson, J. Johnston, B. McKenzie, S. Hinds, Mrs R. Ferguson, Mrs R. Tinnock and Miss J. Mclntosh; club captain, Mr H. Johnston; women’s captain, Mrs R. Tinnock; trustees, Messrs T. Mclntosh and J. Flynn; delegates to S.L.T.A., Messrs T. Mclntosh and R. Ferguson. It was decided that all members who have joined the military forces for overseas service and who are waiting to go into camp or home on leave are to have free membership. Congratulations were extended to the Central A grade team, the Invercargill B grade team and the Bluff C grade team on winning the various competitions. WAIKIWI CLUB The annual meeting of the Waikiwi Tennis Club was held on Thursday evening. Mr F. Woodfield presided over a fair attendance.

The following office-bearers were elected:—Patron, Sir Robert Anderson; president, Mr F. Woodfield; vice-presi-dents, Father McGettigan, the Rev. L. W. Rothwell, Messrs A. Marshall, C. F. Myers, J. Patterson, J. McSkimming, H. Irwin and C. Maltby; club captain, Mr N. Harper; deputy club captain, Miss M. Broad; committee, Messrs Newell, J. O’Kane and Boys, Mesdames Newell, Patterson and J. O’l'ane; secretary, Miss H. Barry; auditor, Mr J. Boys; delegates to the Southland Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs F. Woodfield and J. O’Kane. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed a small credit balance. The club’s opening day was fixed for Saturday, October 5.
