AWARUA CLUB HAS GOOD YEAR SUM OF £133 WON AT six Regattas A former Bluff oarsman, C. West, had started a New Zealand crew in Egyptian waters, stated the president (Mr A. E. Budd) at the annual meeting of the Awarua Boating Club. Mr Budd presided and congratulated members on their successful season. War had caused a big depletion in their numbers and those left would have to work harder to carry on. The balance-sheet showed an improved balance. The annual report stated that the club was very successful at regattas, winning £133/4/6 at six regattas, a decrease of £l7/11/- in the previous year’s winnings. The junior crew came third in the New Zealand championships at Wellington. The following members had enlisted for active service: W. Aitken, A. West, N. Robertson, C. Denny, G. Williamson, C. Hunter, H. Raymond, J. Cooper, Jack Parry, E. White, B. Budd, C. Morrison, R. Williamson, J. Dawson, L. Hart, G. Niven, J. Waitiri, A. Rouse, J. Johnston, H. Cunningham, W. Valentine and N. Johnson.
A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Messrs A. Burtenshaw and D. McKenzie was carried. ELECTION OF OFFICERS Office-bearers elected were: Patron, the Hon. T. F. Doyle, M.L.C.; president; Mr A. E. Budd; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. S. Morrison; auditor, Mr R. N. Porter; vice-presidents. Sir Robert Anderson, Dr. A. R. Ross, Messrs P. Ward, G. Johnson, R. Deacon, W. B. Dixon, F. Parsons, C. G. Pilcher, S. G. Mitchell, J. Cameron and C. Beaton; club captain, Mr L. Dawson; deputy club captain, Mr H. Raymond; delegates to Southland Rowing Association, Messrs N. Johnson and L. Hawke; general committee, President, secretary, club captain, deputy club captain and Messrs A. Ramsay, L. Hawke, C. Denny, O. Lindqvist, N. Johnson and J. Parry; sole selector, Mr O. Linqvist; vice-presi-dent in Southland Rowing Association, Mr A. E. Budd; caretaker, Mr C. Morrison.
' The president proposed a special vote of thanks to the retiring sole selector, Mr C. Hunter, who will be entering camp shortly. He said that over a period of four years he had shown great judgment which had always been justified. The subscription was fixed at 10/-. Opening day will be held on October 5. As a nucleus for a building fund it was arranged to invest £5O in negotiable security.
