SENTENCE IMPOSED FOR DESERTION
SEAMAN OF OVERSEAS FOOD SHIP (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, September 27. A sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed by the' Magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout) on George Norman, aged 37, a seaman and fireman, for desertion from an overseas ship. The company’s representative said the ship was a food ship loading for the United Kingdom and he suggested that desertions from such ships in certain cases could cause serious embarrassment to the whole community. Norman from the dock denounced the conditions existing on the ship.
