LONDON NEWS BROADCASTS
New Timetable From Tomorrow
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO BE MADE With the change to summer time in New Zealand tomorrow alterations will be made in the times at _ which Daventry news is broadcast in the Dominion. The most important of these changes are: — The broadcasts at 8.30 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. will be replaced by one at 8.45 a.m.
There will be no “headline news” broadcast at 12.30 p.m., but the broadcast at 1.15 p.m. will be retained. The time of the evening broadcast will be changed from 5.45 to 6.15 p.m. The news summary from London at 9 p.m. will be replaced by a 20minutes “newsreel,” consisting of news from the Prime Minister’s Department, official statements, and extracts from 8.8. C. bulletins, British Official Wireless news, Press Association cables and topical talks. Beginning tomorrow the times for broadcasts of news from the four main stations will be:— 6.0 a.m.—News and news commentary (direct rebroadcast). 7.0 a.m.—Broadcast of recording taken at 6 a.m.
8.45 a.m.—News (direct rebroadcast). 1.15 p.m.—Broadcast of recording taken at 1 p.m. 6.15 p.m.—News (direct rebroadcast). 9.0 p.m.—Broadcast of newsreel. 11.0 p.m.—News and topical talks (direct rebroadcast). Station 4YZ will be on the air on week days for all these news broadcasts with the exception of those at 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. On Sundays the Invercargill station will broadcast the news at 1.15 p.m., 6.15 p.m. and 9 p.m. OTHER CHANGES Another important change is that the evening programme of all the main stations, including Invercargill, will begin at 7.30 p.m. instead of 8 pm. as at present. At 7 p.m., instead of the session of news from the Prime Minister’s Department, the four main stations will be on the air with local news compiled and broadcast individually. At present the auxiliary stations, IZM, IYX, 2YC, 3YL and 4YO, are off the air between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., but in future they will broadcast programmes of music during this hour and thus provide an alternative to the main stations, which will be mainly occupied with news and topical talks. The auxiliary stations will continue their programmes of music until 7.30 p.m., when, as already stated, the main stations will come on the air with their evening programmes. Another alteration is that the latest time for closing down will be 11.30 p.m. instead of midnight. The Invercargill station will, however, continue to close down at 10 o’clock each night. The local news broadcasts by the four main stations at 7 p.m. are expected to last from 10 to 15 minutes and part of this period may be used for national service talks. The quarter of an hour from 7.15 to 7.30 will be used by the four main stations for such features as book and garden talks. The 9 p.m. newsreel is designed to give a complete summary of the day’s news from all quarters. As has been the custom in the past, any news of outstanding importance received from London will be broadcast from the main stations at whatever hour of the day it comes to hand. It will also be broadcast again at the hour following its receipt.
