RISE IN RAILWAY REVENUE
SOUTHLAND RETURNS 3000 MORE PASSENGERS CARRIED The revenue from traffic on the Southland railways during the four weeks ended September 14 shows an increase of £5871 compared with the same period last year. The improvement in the returns is probably accounted for to some extent by the restricted use of petrol for motor-cars. Almost 3000 more passengers were carried on the railways for the period and the increase in revenue over last year’s was £lB7l. The returns from goods traffic rose by more than £4OOO compared with the same four weeks last year and the revenue from parcels also showed an increase. The following are details of traffic conveyed on the Southland section for the four-weekly period, with the figures for the same period last year given for comparison:— TRAFFIC
