RISE IN RAILWAY REVENUE

SOUTHLAND RETURNS 3000 MORE PASSENGERS CARRIED The revenue from traffic on the Southland railways during the four weeks ended September 14 shows an increase of £5871 compared with the same period last year. The improvement in the returns is probably accounted for to some extent by the restricted use of petrol for motor-cars. Almost 3000 more passengers were carried on the railways for the period and the increase in revenue over last year’s was £lB7l. The returns from goods traffic rose by more than £4OOO compared with the same four weeks last year and the revenue from parcels also showed an increase.
