LUMSDEN

SCHOOL DENTAL CLINIC The first annual meeting of the Lumsden District School Dental Clinic Committee was held recently, delegates from Mossburn, Dipton, Five Rivers, Balfour, and Lumsden being present. Mr F. Small presided over the meeting, which was held in the Lumsden school. The balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory position, there being a credit of £33 over the year’s working. Included in the year’s accounts was one of about £l6O, being the committee’s share of cost of building and furnishing as this was the first year of operation. The maintainance cost was stated to be about £33 per annum. This was not balanced by the actual fees collected, but the position, was expected to improve as the ’ Balfour school had joined up and there would be a number of new entrants from other schools.

The report of the dental nurse stated that during the seven months the clinic had been open 169 children had been under treatment from Lumsden, Five Rivers, Mossburn, Athol, Garston, Dipton and Balfour schools. The total number of operations done during the period was 1977. The delegates present expressed their appreciation of the splendid work done by the dental nurse (Miss Islip) and passed a vote of thanks to her.

The election of the committee resulted: Messrs Whitting, W. Orr. A.

Liddel, F. Small, J. Clouston, R. Galbraith, Holden, Wilson, Gray, Muir Gilligan, and a delegate to be appointed from Athol and Garston school committees, and Miss L. White. It Was decided to reduce the fee payable when there were three or more children of the one family receiving treatment to 4/- for each child.
