Cool And Changeable

(Special to The Times)

WELLINGTON, September 26. Following is the special weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Moderate westerly to southerly winds, weather cool and changeable with scattered showers. Seas moderate.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather mainly fair and mild; unsettled, however, in the western districts of the South Island and showers

later extending to Southland and Otago with a south-westerly change. Patches of fog likely again tonight on the Canterbury and Marlborough coast. General Situation.—A belt of high pressure extends from Queensland to beyond the North Island. A weak disturbance is advancing across the Tasman Sea, the lowest pressures being well to the south.

Winds.—Westerly to northerly, later changing to south-westerly in the south; force mainly moderate but becoming strong at times in exposed positions south of New Plymouth and Napier.

Seas (New Zealand waters).—Rather rough south of Cape Egmont; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea.—Light and variable winds and slight seas in the north; fresh northwest winds in the south, changing later to southerly with moderate to rather rough seas.

The weather in Invercargill yesterday was dull and overcast and a few light showers of rain fell during the day. There ,was little wind. The weather at 1 o’clock this morning was cool, calm and overcast. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follows:— This morning (failing) 29.93 in. Thursday 30.01 in. Wednesday 30.10 in.
