Dr G. B. Orbell will leave for Wellington this morning and will be away about a week. Mr E. G. Luzmoor was elected president of the Southland Anglers’ Club at the club’s annual meeting which was held last night. Mr F. N. Binney was elected president of the Otago Cricket Association at the annual meeting on Wednesday night. Mr Justice C. M. Murray-Aynsley, a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements, is visiting New Zealand.

The Rev. L. O. Beere, an Anglican missionary who has spent 11 years in Korea, is taking his leave in Wellington instead of England Miss Jessie R. Mackay, of the staff of the Southland Technical College, will retire soon on superannuation. Her resignation was received at the monthly meeting of the Board of Managers last night, Mr R. S. McKenzie, formerly of Invercargill and for the past 15 years in business on his own account in Dunedin, has been elected president of the Otago branch of the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.

Mr B. A. Mahoney, engineer on the staff of the Thames Borough Council and formerly of Invercargill, is expected to arrive in Invercargill tomorrow night on a holiday visit. Mr Mahoney is a former Southland Rugby player. He was a member of the engineering staff of the Invercargill City Corporation before going to Thames. The resignation of Mr W. McChesney from the Southland Technical College Board was received at last night’s meeting of the board. The chairman, Mr J. H. Reed, in expressing regret at Mr McChesney’s resignation, referred to the excellent work he had done while a member of the board.

Mr J. R. Lindsay, a member of the staff of Brass Bros. Ltd., who goes into camp shortly, was recently entertained at a social evening at the residence of Mr J. S. Brass, Beatrice street. Mr Brass congratulated Mr Lindsay on the step he had taken in enlisting for overseas service. Mr P. J. Brass, in handing a wallet of notes to Mr Lindsay, extended good wishes for a safe and speedy return. Mr P. McCallum also spoke and asked Mr Lindsay to accept from the staff a razor. Mi- Lindsay replied. Messrs H. C Beuke, C. J. Boyes, K. J. Holyoake, S. O’Hara and B. T. Rowling have been appointed members of the Hop Marketing Committee according to a notice contained in last night’s Gazette.

Sir William Perry and Messrs H. D. Acland, L. Mac Lean and G. C. Warren, representatives of the New Zealand Wool Growers’ Association, have been appointed members of the New Zealand Wool Council according to a notice in last night’s Gazette.—Press Association. Messrs A. F. Bell and N. Rowling have been reappointed members of the Tobacco Board and Messrs C. M. Paynter (manufacturers’ representative) and M. H Thorn (growers’ representative) have also been appointed to the board according to a Gazette notice last night.—Press Association.
