BIRDS AND FLOWERS
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S SHOW The annual daffodil show of the Invercargill Horticultural Society, which is to be held in the Victoria Concert Chamber today and tomorrow will be equal to any previous show. The record number of entries, nearly 500, is providing the officials with no easy task in arranging and staging the exhibits. Many of the best narcissi grown in the Dominion will be shown, revealing a great advance in red-cup sorts. The Cage Bird Society is also staging several complete tables of canaries, finches and rare parrots and this combination of flowers arid birds should make the show doubly attractive. The show will open at 2 p.m. today and conclude tomorrow night when all flowers will be auctioned and the whole proceeds handed over to the Patriotic Fund for soldiers’ parcels. The prize-money has been donated by the exhibitors and the expenses will be very light. It is hoped that everyone will find time to assist by visiting the show or purchasing a ticket.
