Mr G. E. Mitchell, of the railways train running office at Invercargill, left by the express yesterday morning for Wellington. Mr F. Jones is at present visiting Wellington. He will return next week.
Mr B. G. Wallace will leave Invercargill by the express this morning to begin training at the Royal New Zealand Air Force station at Levin.
The death of Mr P. Giles, of Bluff, was referred to at the meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board last night The chairman (Mr W. J. A. McGregor) said Mr Giles had been a servant of the board for 22 years and had retired 11 years ago.
Sergeant Pilot G. W. Alington was bidden farewell by members of the firm and staff of J. Bath and Sons, Limited, at a function in the garage last evening. Mr J. T. Bath presided and said that all were proud of the success already gained by Sergeant Pilot Alington, and they hoped he would emulate the deeds of his brothers and other Southland airmen. He handed Sergeant Pilot Alington a solid leather attache case suitably inscribed and expressed good wishes for a successful career in the Royal Air Force and a safe return to Invercargill. Mr A* EBath congratulated Sergeant Pilot Alington on his success and mentioned the fine record of the Alington family in the Royal Air Force. A gift of a wallet from the employees of the firm was handed to Sergeant Pilot Alington by Mr F. D. Aitken. Messrs Frank Bath and W. Lee also spoke and expressed good wishes.
