DEATH OF 14 MONTHS OLD CHILD

CEREBRAL CONGESTION AND HAEMORRHAGE

A verdict that the cause of death was attributable to cerebral congestion and haemorrhage was returned by the Coroner (Mr R. C. Abernethy, S.M.) after an inquest into the death of a 14 months old child, ' Bruce Alexander Hamilton, son of Mr and Mrs J. F. Hamilton, of Northope. The child’s parents said that it had received treatment at the Karitane home when a few months old and was later fed on a prescribed diet It did not appear to have any weakness after that until it developed whooping cough. On September 23 it had a sustained coughing spasm and died soon afterwards.

Dr W. J. Barclay said he had conducted a post-mortem examination on the body of the child. He considered that death was attributable to cerebral congestion and haemorrhage.
