SWIMMING

EX-PUPILS’ CLUB . The annual meeting of the Ex-Pupils’ Swimming Club was held' 1 last night, Mr W. T. Springford (president) presiding over a large attendance of members. The membership had been well maintained and stood at approximately 180, a slight increase of 22 on last, season, stated the annual report. The balancesheet showed a loss of £4/15/6, the balance at the bank being £7/4/5. The carnival showed a loss of 4/-. Considerable expenditure was incurred with the payment of club hour fees, but this was counter-balanced by the payment of subscriptions. Subscriptions collected amounted to £3/6/6, and the club hour fees were £2/15/2, The carnival held in February was one of the best yet held by the club. The club extended its heartiest good wishes to those on active service and also to those waiting to be called up. Those already on active service included E. W. Gumbley, D. C. Berry, S. Green, D. B. Collie, A. Wesney and J. Henry, while those who had enlisted but had not yet been called up were A. C. Millar, O. Davis, D. Davis, A. Brown, A. J. Kingsland and F. W. Springford. The following' officers were elected: Patron, Mr T. D. Pearce; president, Mr E. D.| Salisbury; vice-president, Mr W. T. Springford; women’s club captain, Miss L. Jones; men’s club captain, Mr R. Barlow; secretary and treasurer, Mr L. Cowie; delegates to Southland Swimming Centre, Messrs A. J. Kingsland* R. W. Strang and W. T. Springford; committee, Messrs J. B. Allen, W. Ronald, B. Morgan and ,A. Duncan and Misses K. Bradshaw and Lange; Old Boys Association representative, Mr O. Davis; auditor, Mr R. W. Strang. It was decided to send a copy of the annual report to the members of the .club on active service and to write to them expressing the club’s wishes for a speedy return to civil life. The club’s opening hour was fixed for Tuesday, October 1.
