NEW WARD AT GORE HOSPITAL
SPECIAL COLOURED GLASS PANELS FOR CHILDREN
Tenders have been called for the erection of the new children’s ward at the Gore Public Hospital. Providing for 12 beds in four small wards of one bed each and two four-bed wards, the addition to the hospital will fill a long-felt need,
It will be a brick and timber structure 103 ft x 40ft, and will form a wing on the north side of the existing building. The entrance to the hospital as it stands at present will be taken out, and a new entrance will/give access to the whole hospital. An interesting feature of the new building will be coloured sandblasted glass panels which will be built into each ward. These are incorporated in many modern overseas hospitals and they relieve the chasteness of the wards in a manner pleasing to children. Nursery rhyme characters, such as Little 80-Peep or Miss Muffet, and perhaps Mickey Mouse as well, will be depicted on the glass. The doors will also have similar panels. The partitions between the wards will not extend quite to the ceilings and the glass panels will be set in at a conveniently low level. Provision is also to be made for the usual ward facilities, including a kitchen, a sink room, patients’ clothing room, bathroom, toilets and a sterilizing room.
